Believe in the power of art

We believe public art can transform the everyday.
It energizes shared spaces, invites curiosity, and creates places where people feel connected. Our work is rooted in the idea that art can shift perspectives, reflect community values, and shape the identity of a city. We create public art because it has the power to spark dialogue, inspire pride, and make our environments more welcoming and alive.

We are CJR Design — a father–daughter sculpture team creating colorful, modern public art

Our work transforms shared spaces with bold color, clean geometry and the timeless optimism of mid-century and modern design. Guided by two generations of creativity, we craft large-scale installations that celebrate community, spark connection, and bring joy to the environments where people live work and play.

Our work is grounded in a simple belief ; public art brings people together. It turns ordinary spaces into meaningful places, encourages reflection, and celebrates the identity of the communities we serve. We create art that invites interaction, honors local stories, and helps shape environments that feel vibrant, welcoming, and uniquely alive.

Our Process

As a professional father-daughter sculpture team, we focus on site-specific designs, guiding each project from concept through fabrication and to completion. Our approach is centered around the creation of site-specific, thought-provoking works that offer multiple layers of meaning, encouraging discovery and repeated engagement over time.

Our creative process begins with abstract concepts and visual ideas that spark interest. These initial ideas are developed digitally, where we can explore form, scale, movement and spatial relationships, pushing the boundaries of our designs. Using graphic software allows us to incorporate the specific context of each site, creating a site-responsive design that feels integrated with its environment. Once the design concept is finalized, we develop a detailed digital 3D model and refine it before fabricating a scaled miniature in metal or wood, providing a realistic representation of the final sculpture. Although technology is a valuable tool, we are cautious about relying too heavily on it; the concern is that art dependent on technology may have a lifespan limited to the technology itself, and we expect our sculptures to endure beyond that. Upon final approval of the design, we move forward with laser cutting and fabrication, ensuring that the physical execution matches the prototype precisely. This method allows for the accurate creation of sculptures at any scale, and the use of advanced software and design technology helps push our work into new creative directions.

We sculpt using stainless and mild steel, molding, welding, and grinding these materials into abstract forms that are often enhanced with color, texture, scale, LED lighting, and elements of kinetic motion, to help add a dynamic dimension to each piece. The vibrant and bold colors we use reflect life’s own exuberance—joyful, colorful, and full of energy; believing that art should mirror this vitality, offering a sensory experience that goes beyond aesthetics. By working with diverse materials, we can offer a wide range of pricing options for both private collectors and public installations.

As a father-daughter team, through each piece we aim to create art that transcends the visual, that sparks thought, engagement, and a sense of wonder. Our sculptures are meant to evolve with the viewer, offering something new with every encounter.

  • CJ and Katen were an absolute pleasure to work with. While it was the elegance of their monumental steel designs that first caught our attention, it was the depth of their experience that gave us confidence to award them the contract to deliver a 37-foot sculpture for a new public plaza in California. They followed through with incredible professionalism, handling everything from design, engineering, fabrication, delivery, and installation perfectly. When new information posed challenges, they handled it with grace and did what was needed to double down and keep the project on track. Communication was excellent, and CJ was able to bridge the gap that typically exists between the artists studio and the construction team working on the ground. As an art consultant and public art project manager,  I can say hands down that this was the largest piece we had ever commissioned and also the smoothest process we had ever experienced. I can’t wait to have another opportunity to work with this team.

  • CJRDesignStudio was an outstanding partner on two significant public art projects for the City of Wenatchee—the Tree of Seasons sculpture and the Reflections sculpture. Their team was professional, responsive, and a pleasure to work with throughout every phase of both projects. They delivered exceptional craftsmanship, engineered each piece with precision, stayed on schedule and within budget, and consistently communicated throughout the process. I highly recommend CJRDesignStudio to any organization looking for a talented and reliable public art partner.
